Perth 14. December ’18
On the way to Perth, we visited a national park, of which there are many here, and spotted 8 koalas in total. It was quite an experience. But how do these cute photos come about: koalas looking nicely into the camera on someone’s arm? Because now we know that koalas sleep almost their whole lives away and are only awake for a short time at night to eat. During the day they are cuddled up between branches or wrapped around trees, sometimes changing their position briefly, otherwise just sleeping:
They are not even disturbed by the scrambling birds: -G.
Arrived in Perth and completed the programme for the next day.
It was quite exhausting today. We finally had to wash our Motorhome because we wanted to go to a WINNIPEG dealership to get a few things checked and spent half the day and a few kilometres trying to find a car wash that would fit our truck. But it was only enough for 3 sides, because when we turned round to wash the back, another car driver slid into the car wash in a moment of inattention. Then the space was actually far too narrow to turn round such a big car and our bike carrier took a beating and Gerhard had something to tinker with again. We were already so annoyed that we drove on like this, we just had to see how we could get the back and the roof clean, because when it rains the dirt from the roof runs over the freshly cleaned roof.
But – it’s not raining! -G.
We often spend the first time in a new place looking for something that is missing or needs replacing for our campervan and often find it where we least expect it. Like the aerial, an American model. Sending it over the Internet would have been almost the only option and then we happened to find exactly the right one in a small shop in a small town and so Gerhard never (?) says again: they don’t have it anyway, I don’t even need to ask. When we return the Motorhome at the end it will be in a better condition than before, yes, that’s Gerhard, that’s how you know him.
We stay here for 14 days and it’s really relaxing. The temperatures have risen to 40° again, but they go down a lot at night and we can use the air conditioning here, so we don’t have to try to sleep in the heat like we do in the outback.
First we went sightseeing in Fremantle, a small harbour town at the mouth of the Swan River off Perth, with a great lively atmosphere and really full. The houses are preserved in the old style. So we stroll through the streets – phew, even the shops are open! – …..
….and visited the tourist market.
There are also smaller breweries here, so we avoided the „Hofbräuhaus“ and ended up in a very busy brewery at the harbour. So as not to cause envy, there is no „beer picture“. -G.
Yesterday we took advantage of the hot weather to go sightseeing in Perth. There are 4 bus routes in the city centre that do their rounds through the city „free of charge“, but from our caravan park (unfortunately these are often not close to the centre – „they should be on holiday and not rummaging around in the city…. “ -G.) until then it costs as much as travelling from Mühlheim to Frankfurt anyway. So we spent the afternoon getting to know Perth on three routes in an air-conditioned bus, a city where beautiful centuries-old architecture meets super-modernity without one stealing the show from the other.
The small, interesting harbour mainly serves as a refuge for excursion boats and the ferry. It also offers a nice view of the town.
The Kings Garden is a huge area on the hills next to the city and is also a botanical garden and great recreational area. The „No trespassing on lawns“ signs have been removed – so there are no lawns lickers – and the lawns are there for everyone.
Today I tried to clean the back of the RV with all sorts of long-handled things – with moderate success. However, the windows have been a success. The RV was always quite dark, the windows are tinted – after cleaning I realised it wasn’t the tinting that darkened the car so much……
We always try not to use the cooker for too long, as it’s not so pleasant in hot temperatures. So for Christmas we had to make a „cold dog“. At the last minute, Gerhard found 6 forgotten, now overripe bananas in the cupboard. I just managed to save them from the rubbish bin (mum: food is not thrown away – think of all the hungry people) and I finally had a reason to make a banana cake. Gerhard only eats bananas in their original state, everything else is „erx“ with an appropriate facial expression. But I couldn’t throw them away and as Gerhard now eats a lot of „erx“ things, there was hope. And lo and behold, the banana cake turned out so delicious that even I was completely gobsmacked. And I don’t think Gerhard ate it just to make me happy at Christmas. By the way, I spread a thick layer of the cold dog’s chocolate cream on the cake at the end. ( The success – the „cold dog“ has perished and has not yet been found despite my intensive search – erx -G. )
But we still had a lovely Christmas Day and even in Perth they made an effort to spread the Christmas spirit. -G.

Then, on the last day, a complete surprise: for some time I had been almost desperately looking for Schüssler salts. There was a pharmacy in Sydney that was really into homeopathy and also made its own ointments. I had run out of Silicea and in no time at all he made it in the potency I needed. I wanted to stock up on the last day, but it was a Sunday and almost everything was open on Sundays, but only almost everything. That was it. I’ve been looking ever since. I slowly ran out of 1+2. In every pharmacy I was told regretfully that yes, homeopathy is the best but it is not required here, the only thing that many had was the 7, when nothing helps anymore even the biggest smiler still takes the same. To my astonishment, what everyone actually had was the Rescue stuff, which I had never tried before but knew many people who were enthusiastic about it. But lo and behold, be realistic and believe in miracles, on the outskirts of Perth in a small shopping centre near our RV park, there was a health store owned by an Asian from Singapore who has lived in Australia for 10 years. And my heart beat faster: all the Schüssler salts lined up nicely on the shelf! An Asian from Singapore! And not only that, we’ve been out of EM toothpaste for a while now and we really miss it.
Well, he didn’t have EM toothpaste but about 12 different natural toothpastes, even one from Weleda, no, I took an Australian one, I always try the local stuff first if I can.
Today, the 28th, we set off after doing some shopping. It was already late and we were soon looking for a place. What we found was an absolute highlight. Right on a cliff with a view over the whole bay. We were just enjoying the sunset.
